Site Selection announces 2019 Mac Conway Awards

The Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) has been named a recipient of the 2019 Mac Conway Awards for Excellence in Economic Development by Site Selection magazine, a national publication geared toward site selectors and those in the decision-making process for expansions and relocations. The Mac Conway Awards, named in honor of Site Selection founding publisher H. McKinley “Mac” Conway are awarded to the top 20 local and regional U.S. economic development groups of 2018. GPEC has had the honor of being named a top economic development group by Site Selection Magazine for three years in a row.

As a public-private partnership organization, collaboration is at the core of what we do and the successes of GPEC are reflective of many people and many organizations coming together,” says Chris Camacho, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. “We’re putting Greater Phoenix on the map and continuously innovating so that the region will not only thrive, but also maintain its welcoming identity as our region advances. It is an honor to be recognized as a top national economic development organization and we owe this success to our excellent staff, board of directors, business community, and the regionalism exhibited by the mayors and county supervisors in Greater Phoenix.”

This year’s Mac Conway Award winners were determined by an index that examines 2018 corporate facility investment projects in U.S. metro areas as tracked by Site Selection’s proprietary Conway Projects Database, part of the Conway Analytics toolbox. Scores are awarded based on six criteria: total projects, total investment associated with those projects and jobs associated with those projects. The remaining three criteria represent a per capita calculation of those same metrics.

“We are part of the development process,” wrote McKinley “Mac” Conway, founder of Conway, Inc. “We play a role in the future. And we help bring a better quality of life to areas today.” In that spirit, Site Selection recognizes the groups who pursue that ideal as their daily mission.
