The third in a series, this painting explores the absolute brilliance of a desert bloom as well as the brief life that most experience, by its ragged and wilting pedals that continue to hold intense color.

Completed during the pandemic, Under the Snow Moon is meant to commemorate the resilience of the Hopi people, living peacefully as stewards of Mother Earth. During visionary rituals in the kiva, when the future may be seen, they pray not only for themselves but all beings.

Tulip bulbs opening their red flowers into a home, bringing hope — red hope — and combining the colors with the house. Red, the color of love and passion — just the two necessary principles that the new year needs.

Living in Arizona, I LOVE cowboy boots. We always seek the opportunity to show off our latest pair! These girls are admiring their own and each other’s while enjoying a lazy day in the pasture.

I love all mythologies because they are full of wondrous worlds, creatures, and adventures. Dryads are among my favorite figures from these stories — they are beautiful, highly symbolic and symbolize many different things.

In this piece, I imagined a dryad waking at daybreak. I wanted to show the connection between the Dryad and the environment she is in. They are linked. Co-dependent. Like we are.

These paintings are an homage to two of my favorite local species: the palo verde and the carpenter bee. I love the contrast between the rich, saturated yellow of the palo verde flowers and the obsidian sheen of the bees. The fact that they need one another to survive is just as beautiful as is the image of their interactions. It is a scene and a sentiment worthy of a Song Dynasty scroll, and we in Arizona are fortunate to witness it every spring.

The oriole visited the bird bath during migration, a sign of springtime.

The agave plant is a beautiful sculpture with pointed arms and blue green hue. It is also good in the form of a margarita. The plant is revived in new ways. It’s crazy good.

As the title suggest, “rising” may symbolize the great phoenix rising. Phoenix keeps reinventing itself and growing/rising.

This piece was created using methods to ensure it holds resonance with the subject matter. The materials were created while being surrounded by orgonite Pyramids made with stones appropriate to the work, smudged at each stage (cleansed and blessed with White Sage), charged with Sedona Red Rock and tuned using Singing Bowls. Each paint was custom-mixed with the “guidance” I receive. It was so successul, the Red Rocks in the painting actually take on the same Golden/Red glow as the actual Sedona Red Rocks during the golden hour!

The subject manifest: This work illustrates an experience of finding resonance with the Red Rock formation of Sedona. It also came forth with a clear manifestation of what I like to call the “Tween Spaces” positioned between this 3D physical realm, and a mirror reality. It’s in this space where the mysteries of Sedona exist. Sedona and the surrounding land are extremely spirited. I use this medium to provide yet another view into the beyond. This painting brought forth a heron, duck, and several other birds along with other “messengers!” Each element of this painting is speaking many things. Even the underlying “grid” pattern holds significance. This painting will bring great energy into your space! It is my hope that more people are encouraged to find connection with the beautiful land in this most wonderful of states!

The infinite soul is an exquisite existence, but we sometimes get so caught up in being human that we forget what we truly are. We are beautifully unique and perfectly flawed creatures who define the spirit of our reality. So dream. Dream without reason. Without proof. Without agreement. Just dream.” This work was created as an escape into fantasy … a place to re-align the heart and mind. Part protection from the global crisis and part inspiration to look beyond our current state and instead place focus on the wondrous times ahead.

Prickly pears bloom in a variety of colors and adorn the greater Phoenix landscape.

Koi bring beauty and life to our ponds. Reflections in the water show trees and parts of a Phoenician landscape.

Our desert has many magnificent blooms. The century plant is one of those examples. It’s amazing and grandiose.

The important history of the Native Americans in Arizona is a great part of the strength of our community. Pride in the past will help strengthen our future.

Finding spiritual renewal through meeting again with those who have come before.

The contrast between the inside and outside work environment. We need both. A foundation of Arizona is built upon the people of agriculture, but an additional way forward is to see the other technologies and businesses that now make up our state.

This piece represents growth and resilience.

Like human beings who all have different characteristics, individual popped corn kernels all have a unique form which can be interpreted in myriad ways. Revival requires people and ideas and popped corn symbolizes the infinite expanding of minds focused on renewal.

I originally exhibited a group of 14 of these types of constructions at the Mesa Arts Center as a statement of the people that were dying in the desert trying to get to the work fields of Arizona. This piece has been reworked to express the new feeling of hope for immigrants in America.

This shows the plant reproducing new life with buds that turn into beautiful flowers.

The natural beauty and wonder of our state can inspire us to overcome the challenges COVID has burdened us with.

In Greek mythology, the phoenix is a creature who has the ability to regenerate and essentially “be born again”. At the end of their life, the legend states, the bird will combust in flames and rebirth from the ashes. The flames depicted in this painting titled, “Inferno”, represents our chance to reset. As a community, we have experienced a challenging year during a global pandemic. It is my hope that we will rise, just like a phoenix bird. We will overcome the hardships, socialize, connect and flourish as one community.

This is the first time I spotted a female Black Rosy-Finch. To see her on new spring blooms gives me hope that 2021 will deliver many more beautiful moments.

Coyote Canyon is a digital illustration that I created to show in a unique way the beauty of the Sonoran Desert and the beautiful wildlife that lives in it. My use of symbolism and bright colors give it a folk-art style.

Photomicrographic image (photo taken through a microscope) created by growing citric acid crystals on a microscope slide. It literally and figuratively represents the creation of order and beauty from chaos.

The tree with its open arms is an example of continuous revival.

Symbolic of the spring dances of the Hopi traditions, Rain Dance evokes the spirits to bring forth rain for the coming spring planting of crops. You can hear the rhythm of the drums.

This piece was created to bring joy and happiness to the viewer through its bright colors and stylized line work.

It’s all about having a supportive community.

Wild rare rainstorms that leave as quickly as they arrive give Phoenicians a weather bond.

An orange lotus and not pink or white. This painting gives an impression of beauty in being unique and not being one of the crowd. A great theme for the revival of Greater Phoenix area.

“Perceptions-e21” central theme is the perceptions of understanding. How we grow as we understand. Our darker self grows from the bottom through the middle of the painting and reaches for a spiritual understanding toward the top.

Storm on the Horizon is a landscape work which was inspired by desert monsoon storms. It shows how vital rain is to our desert landscape. This work may look dark, but it is really about life to what we call home in this desert. This landscape with dramatic clouds was painted to inspire and give hope.

Joni Mitchell sings that a cactus tree is free. For many like myself, AZ represented a new start in an open space.

The Cactus Wren uses the cactus to nest in. The cactus is never going to harm the bird, like when we have home, everyone is our loved ones, and no one is going to harm us.

We’ve had a tough year, but we can always find peace and hope while visiting the beautiful scenery in Arizona.

Untranslatable Connection is between a force (highest truest expression of ourselves) and the universe working together to bring self-realization to fruition.

From my new Emergent series, “The Promise” is inspired by the brilliant red amaryllis blooming in my studio. I am in awe of the transformation it goes through daily on its way from a nondescript brown bulb to becoming a mass of blossoms on a single stalk. Its new growth reflects the way I am feeling these days … promises of possibilities, and revival of spirit in all areas of my life are starting to emerge.

Created by painting with paper, quilling paper, washi paper and diamond crystals, this is an ethereal depiction of a woman whose face is half concealed behind a butterfly mask. As we look forward to the end of mask-wearing due to the pandemic, we emerge from a chrysalis (quarantining).
