Meet Greater Phoenix-based artist Chad Worth, featured in GPEC’s Perspectives of Greater Phoenix Exhibit

In the heart of downtown Phoenix, where the city’s energy hums through murals, light rail tracks, and the occasional musician on a street corner, Chad Worth finds his rhythm. As one of the featured artists in Greater Phoenix’s Economic Council’s (GPEC) Perspectives of Greater Phoenix Exhibit, his work captures the choreography of urban life: spontaneous, layered and deeply observant.

“I like the urban energy of downtown Phoenix,” he says. “I’ll often sit at a coffee house or cafe and just draw in my sketchbook.” It’s a ritual that mirrors his creative approach, rooted in presence as the city’s cadence guides his hand.

For Chad, Greater Phoenix isn’t just a backdrop. It’s a source of ideas, movement and cultural exchange. “Arts and culture in the Phoenix area helps to spread different ideas about local customs, people and places,” he shares. That openness to diversity and dialogue is reflected in his work, which often explores the intersection of environment and experience.

Community is another cornerstone of his practice. The artist regularly visits the Scottsdale Artist School during open studio sessions and joins plein air events. These gatherings offer more than technical growth — they foster connection and collaboration amongst artists.

Chad said he goes to the Phoenix Mountain Preserve for a quick creative recharge. These natural spaces, expansive and quiet, offer a counterbalance to the city’s pace, giving him room to reflect and reset.

The artist shared a piece of advice that has stayed with him about allowing the process to lead the work: “After some practice, the painting process can be so overwhelming that you can lose yourself in it and the painting itself becomes an afterthought.” It’s a perspective that hints at his belief in the value of the creative journey itself — where the act of painting allows the final product to reveal itself organically. That philosophy is reflected in the artists he draws inspiration from, including Matt Smith, Anton Nowels, and Amery Bohling, each contributing uniquely to Arizona’s rich artistic landscape.

Chad describes the region’s art scene in three words: spacious, unique and vibrant. It’s a concise reflection of the creative landscape — one that offers room to grow, celebrates individuality and pulses with energy — much like his own work.
