Meet San Tan Valley-based artist Stacy Gamel featured in our exhibit Greater Phoenix is Poppin’

What do you love most about being an artist in Greater Phoenix?

I love the desert. I grew up on the outskirts of town and spending time outside was a huge part of my experience. I love seeing acres of saguaros and the color changes in prickly pear cacti. I feel like I discover a new kind of cactus or color variation every time I get out. Taking in this vast landscape inspires me to create.

What role do you think arts and culture plays in our community as a whole?

They provide a rallying point that everyone, regardless of their background can get behind and be a part of.

What is your favorite art venue/event in Greater Phoenix?

My wife is also an artist, so I’ve had the privilege of attending many events! The GPEC Open House, Portland On The Park art openings, and the Found:Re events come to mind.

What advice do you have for artists wanting to get involved in the local art scene?

Get your ideas out of your head and on the canvas and submit them to the events that fit your work. Too many times we hesitate to create and miss out on being part of a great community.
