GPEC named top economic development organization for fourth straight year
Site Selection announces 2020 Mac Conway Awards
The Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) has received a 2020 Mac Conway Award for Excellence in Economic Development by Site Selection magazine for the fourth year in a row. The Mac Conway Award, named in honor of Site Selection founding publisher, H. McKinley “Mac” Conway, is awarded to the top 20 local and regional U.S. economic development groups of 2019.
“Collaboration is at the core of what we do as economic developers, so the successes of GPEC is a reflection of many people and organizations,” says Chris Camacho, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. “Our team works diligently with our partners every day to put Greater Phoenix on the map by driving economic investment, creating jobs, spurring innovation and advancing our communities and business ecosystems, which allow Greater Phoenix to thrive. It’s an honor to be recognized as a top national economic development organization and we owe this success to our excellent staff, board of directors, business community, and the regional collaboration exhibited by the mayors and county supervisors in Greater Phoenix.”
2020 Mac Conway Award winners were determined by an index that examines 2019 corporate facility investment projects in U.S. metro areas as tracked by Site Selection’s proprietary Conway Projects database. Scores are awarded based on six criteria: total projects, total investment associated with those projects and jobs associated with those projects. The remaining three criteria represent a per capita calculation of those same metrics.
“We are part of the development process,” wrote McKinley “Mac” Conway, founder of Conway, Inc. “We play a role in the future. And we help bring a better quality of life to areas today.” Site Selection recognizes the complete list of winning economic development organizations that pursue this ideal as their daily mission.
