Meet Health Information Management System: Arizona software company elevating healthcare
As a region, we’re on a relentless pursuit of innovation and technology, and companies here are committed to changing the game. It’s all about people, place and tech in Greater Phoenix. Learn more about Health Information Management System’s (HiMS) story from their CEO, Khalid Al-Maskari.
What is your company mission?
Khalid Al-Maskari: Our mission is to transform the integrated healthcare experience. We exist as an alternative to traditional health IT solutions by using advanced AI and cloud-based solutions that lead to better outcomes, lower costs and higher-quality care. We do this through our Axiom Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform.
What city in Arizona is your company located in?
Al-Maskari: Phoenix and Tucson
How did you come up with the idea for your company?
Al-Maskari: I spent the majority of my career in the health IT industry and experienced the inefficiencies of traditional, legacy EHRs first-hand. I felt that I could create a better solution that addressed inflexibility, user-experience and interoperability issues.
Explain why you chose Greater Phoenix to grow your company.
Al-Maskari: I started HiMS in Tucson but added an office in Phoenix because of the opportunity for HiMS to participate in a larger community of health IT leaders. Phoenix is a center for innovation that we’re happy to be a part of. We’ve also expanded HiMS nationally, and that wouldn’t have been possible without the support we received in Phoenix.
Why is Greater Phoenix a great place to develop, implement and scale this technology?
Al-Maskari: Greater Phoenix has an incredible support system that we’re happy to be a part of. The access to leading innovation, top talent and beautiful weather all make Phoenix an ideal place to grow a business. No matter what, there’s always someone willing to help you advance your business to the next level.
What makes your product/technology unique and different?
Al-Maskari: We have significantly more flexibility than other EHR providers due to our cloud-based approach, and this was especially beneficial during COVID-19. We were able to get our customers up and running with telemedicine and other IT solutions in just 48 hours—something that would typically take competitors nine months or more to achieve. As a result of our flexibility and ease of use, we helped our customers maintain consistent revenue during the pandemic and retained 100% of our customers in 2019.
Are you currently hiring? If so, what types of positions do you need filled now? What about in the future?
Al-Maskari: HiMS is not currently hiring.
