As a region, we’re on a relentless pursuit of innovation and technology, and companies here are committed to changing the game. It’s all about people, place and tech in Greater Phoenix. Learn more about Qwick’s story from their Co-Founder and CEO, Jamie Baxter.

Tell us about your company:

Jamie Baxter: Qwick is an on-demand staffing as a service platform that connects service industry professionals with food and beverage shifts in real-time.

Where is your company located?

Baxter: Phoenix

How did you come up with the idea for your company?

Baxter: Qwick started because of a very simple question: What if you could get hospitality workers the same way you would order a car through a ride-hailing appThe hospitality industry is most impacted by seasonality, understaffing, and high turnover, and to fill a shift that opened last minute seemed like a no-brainer.

Explain why you chose Greater Phoenix to grow your company:

Baxter: Greater Phoenix is a friendly place for businesses, a wonderful place to live, affordable compared to some of the traditional tech hubs, and most importantly, it is where our families and business connections are. We recognized the talent pool that existed here, as well as the opportunities to raise capital.

Why is Greater Phoenix a great place to develop, implement and scale this technology?

Baxter: The community in Greater Phoenix is outstanding. From our beginning stages of development with Coplex, a local Venture Builder, to startup competitions and networking events, there were ample opportunities for connections and relationships to be made.

What makes your product/technology unique and different?

Baxter: Our technology is based completely around the people who are using it. Professionals filling shifts with Qwick are required to go through an in-person orientation, pass a Qwiz, and meet one-on-one with a member of our team. Each professional filling a shift is pre- vetted, certified, and qualified. While we’re proud of our technology and the speed of shift fill (with our fastest to-date being 30 minutes from post to arrival), our biggest competitive advantage is the quality of Professionals filling those shifts.

What’s the tech community like in Greater Phoenix? Is it easy to meet other people in the tech sector? Any tips for those who want to get plugged in?

Baxter: The tech community in Greater Phoenix is massively supportive, and ready to help however they can. There are networking events going on all the time. The community is generousyou just need to know how to ask for what you need and be willing to help others out in their journey.

In your opinion, why should someone work in tech in Greater Phoenix?

Baxter: Phoenix is growing rapidly and now is the perfect time to get involved. Investors have their eyes on Phoenix and the companies making moves here. Of course, the cost of living and operating a business here doesn’t hurt either! With students graduating from reputable and innovative universities, as well as having access to more development-focused schools, the talent pool continues to grow both in size and in quality.

Are you currently hiring? If so, what types of positions do you need filled now? What about in the future?

Baxter: We are hiring! We post new positions weekly, so keep an eye on our careers page: https://www.qwick.com/careers/
