What city is your company located in?

Tell us about your company: 

Falls: Sherman & Howard L.L.C. is a regional firm with a national practice. Our over 180 lawyers (30 in Arizona) serve a broad range of clients including individuals, privately held businesses, multi-national corporations and government entities. We also provide counsel to in-house legal departments and to other law firms that require our distinctive experience.  

Our multidisciplinary attorney teams coordinate between practice groups and offices to provide the scope and depth of legal skill necessary to serve our clients most successfully. Our client relationships are built on a shared vision that creates and sustains not only individuals, but also organizations with long-term commitments to their communities, their shareholders and their employees. The attorneys and staff at Sherman & Howard are proud to continue the firm’s long tradition of providing high-quality legal and business solutions. 

How did your company get started? 

Falls: Founded in Denver, Colorado in 1892, James H. Pershing started a firm, one that is known as Sherman & Howard today. Throughout the 1900s, several prominent Colorado lawyers joined the practice as the firm grew to become one of the largest respected law firms in Denver.  

Like many who see Arizona as a vibrant new place in which to do business, Sherman & Howard expanded into Phoenix in 1990. Starting small, with just a few lawyers here, the firm has since attracted like-minded Arizona lawyers to join what is the Sherman & Howard of today. 

Explain why you chose Greater Phoenix to build your company: 

Falls: Like most who live here, we knew Phoenix was a growing, vibrant place at the beginning of becoming a significant part of the national and world economies. We wanted to be a part of that. 

What makes your product unique and different? 

Falls: Many lawyers do similar things. We are proud of our established excellence and have client relationships that are built on a shared vision. 

What is the best thing about having your business in Greater Phoenix? 

Falls: This is a fun place in which to live, work and play. Many people travel here for events, golf and vacations. Those of us who work here can have those experiences 365 days a year, whenever we have free time. How can you beat that? 

In your opinion, why should someone build a career in Greater Phoenix? 

Falls: Unlike many cities, where your importance and acceptance are based on your family’s history in the region, who they are, or where you went to school, Greater Phoenix has a welcome mat out to all who come here. Very few of us were born and raised here. We welcome you with open arms. You can build the career you want based on who you are. 

What are three words you would use to describe the business community in Greater Phoenix? 

Falls: Growing, inclusive, vibrant. 

Are you currently hiring? If so, what types of positions do you need filled now? What about in the future? 

Falls: As a law firm, we are always looking for new members to join us in many different practice areas. We hope that process will not only continue but grow significantly into the future. We also fill positions, as needed, for staff and newer lawyers called associates.
