What makes Greater Phoenix so great: Ashley Tupper

Tell us a little about yourself:

I am the Senior Vice President of External Relations at GPEC. I was born and raised in Arizona and love to support all our sports teams. As an avid hiker, most of the time you can find me on the trails at Piestewa Peak or the White Tank Mountain Regional Park.

What city or town do you live in?

North Central Phoenix

How long have you lived in Greater Phoenix?

Before I went to college, I lived in Greater Phoenix for 18 years. Most recently, after leaving California and moving back home to Greater Phoenix, it has been about one year.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Greater Phoenix on the weekends?

I love hiking on the weekends as I can spend more time exploring new trails and taking in the scenery. I also love shopping around the vintage stores in the Melrose District.

What’s your favorite local restaurant?

El Chorro. It has the perfect mix of history, spectacular views, desert scenery and outside patio dining with irresistible sticky buns.

What’s something that has surprised you about Arizona?

How much it has grown and evolved over the years. Having been away for a few years, living in New York and California, it seems every time I came back home there was a new restaurant, shop, or attraction.

Anything else you want to add?

There is nothing better than being in the Arizona desert during a Monsoon. The temperature cools, the night sky lights up the cacti and palo verde trees. The moon shining through the clouds casts a beautiful glow across the desert. It is truly a unique experience.
