What makes Greater Phoenix so great: Cathy Maiorano

Published: 06/22/2021

How old are you?

69

How long have you lived in Greater Phoenix?

I was born here – so all my life

What city do you currently reside in?

Queen Creek

Did you grow up in Arizona?

Yes

Why did you decide to stay in Greater Phoenix?

I have been many places, but Arizona provides the most temperate climate year-round.  Plus, the diversity of Arizona is amazing.

If you graduated from college, where did you attend and what was your degree?

I didn’t go to college but studied art for six years at a local art institute.

Where do you currently work and what is your title?

I’m a self-employed fine artist and have a studio in my home.

What do you like to do in Greater Phoenix on the weekends?

So many things but riding the light rail from Mesa to the Roosevelt area, walking around to look at all the great art murals on the buildings, and going to a coffee shop or getting an ice cream is a fun way to spend the day.

What’s your favorite restaurant and why?

The Salt Cellar Restaurant in Scottsdale has amazing seafood and being underground is just different and cool!

What’s your go-to staycation spot and why?

Pine Top or Alpine up North, Christopher Creek. I love to rent a little cabin and enjoy the cooler weather and do some star gazing, fishing, going to the antique shops, the smell of the pine trees is so relaxing.

How do you stay “cool” in the Arizona summers?

Pool! Shopping in an air-conditioned mall, going for a drive with the air on full blast…lol. Of course, going up north!

What do you like about our winters and why?

It’s our time to enjoy the outdoors, BBQ and gardening. Even on the cold days it’s not all that cold. I watch the news and see people shoveling snow and feel privileged to live here!

What do you love most about living in Greater Phoenix?

Some may laugh at this, but I LOVE all the freeways! Phoenix has made it easier to travel around and get from one side of town to the other as fast as possible. I have been to other states that have very little infrastructure and it’s frustrating to get around in them.

Please include anything else you’d like to share about what makes Greater Phoenix so great.

Infrastructure, diversity, attractiveness to businesses to locate here, the casual lifestyle, the beautiful scenery, and weather. I haven’t found a better place to live!
