What makes Greater Phoenix so great: Lauren Patheal

Published: 10/18/2019

What is your first and last name?

Lauren Patheal

How old are you?

I’m 32 years old.

What current city do you reside in?

I currently live in North Central Phoenix.

How long have you lived in Greater Phoenix?

I’m a proud, second-generation native Arizonan.

Why did you decide to stay?

The Greater Phoenix region has so many uniquely wonderful assets. The beautiful weather and environmental attributes, outstanding restaurant and retail options, and the extremely reasonable cost of living are among some of the key factors in my decision to continue to call the region “home.”

What college/university did you graduate from and what’s your degree?

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in literature from Arizona State University.

Where do you currently work and what is your title?

I currently serve as the director of member engagement and communications for Greater Phoenix Leadership – the leading alliance of Arizona CEOs working together to improve the region’s economic standing and overall quality of life at the intersection of the business, government, philanthropic and education sectors.

What do you like to do in Greater Phoenix on the weekends?

Typically, on the weekends you can find me shopping at a local boutique, riding my bike to a nearby restaurant, swimming at a friend’s pool, spending time with my family and chasing three insanely cute dogs down Roosevelt Row with my better half, Andy.

What’s your go-to staycation spot and why?

The Royal Palms has always been a family favorite of ours. The tree-lined pool area has just enough shade, and their Pina Coladas are the BEST summer treat! We stayed at The Camby and had a fabulous experience as well.

What’s your favorite restaurant and why?

This is such a tough question. I imagine it’s akin to when a parent is asked to name a favorite child. Lately, I’ve been really excited about Pomo Pizzeria, but my true favorite is Hanny’s. The food is delicious, the ambiance is fantastic and if you haven’t been to their basement to see the “art” you’re truly missing out!

What do you like about our winters and why?

Arizona’s winters are perfectly mild in every way. We have a chiminea in the backyard that we love to fire up (no pun intended) once we feel a chill in the air. Also, I’ve never had to shovel snow in my entire life, and something tells me that if I did, I’d probably complain the entire time, which isn’t a great look.

What do you love most about living in Greater Phoenix?

I love feeling a sense of connectivity to the neighborhood and community around me. I also love that I get to live so close to family and friends – I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

Please include anything else you’d like to share about what makes Greater Phoenix so great.

Phoenix’s local leadership has demonstrated a truly pragmatic approach and dedication to advancing the region. I’m thankful to live in a community with elected and appointed officials who are willing to make thoughtful investments throughout the city.
