Internship Overview
The Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) is seeking a Digital Marketing Intern to join our Marketing & Communications (MarComm) team. This role reports to the Senior Director of Digital Marketing and offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital marketing while learning about economic development in various industries across Greater Phoenix.
As the Digital Marketing Intern, you will play a key role in supporting GPEC’s content development, production and marketing initiatives. You will coordinate all podcast logistics, including scheduling, setup and guest communications, and handle professional-grade editing, multi-channel distribution and promotional content creation. You will maintain and optimize GPEC’s website by updating content, optimizing technical SEO, and suggesting improvements to design, usability and mobile experience.
Your responsibilities will include monitoring news and reports that rank Greater Phoenix or highlight regional VC funding, sharing insights with the team and creating social media posts in GPEC’s tone often with accompanying brand graphics created in Canva. You will compile and analyze monthly marketing metrics across platforms, support paid advertising campaigns through content creation and copywriting, and produce GPEC’s monthly newsletter with timely, relevant content. Additionally, you will ensure all collateral and copy meet brand standards and assist with on-site support for GPEC events.
Internship Responsibilities
- Coordinate all podcast logistics, including scheduling, setup, guest communications and arranging day-of content capture such as photography during recordings.
- Collaborate to brainstorm episodes, recommend topics and guests that highlight Greater Phoenix’s unique stories, and develop detailed outlines from planning discussions.
- Edit episodes to professional-grade quality using Adobe software, incorporating music, intros/outros and removing filler words or errors to ensure a polished final product.
- Manage the podcast approval process, upload finalized episodes with descriptions to the hosting platform, and lead multi-channel distribution by creating promotional materials and repurposing content for social, web and other platforms.
- Maintain and optimize GPEC’s websites by keeping content and data current, resolving SEO issues and proactively suggesting design, usability and mobile improvements.
- Monitor news articles and reports that rank Greater Phoenix or highlight regional VC funding, share findings with the team and create social posts in GPEC’s tone, with graphics produced from pre-defined Canva templates where needed.
- Compile and analyze monthly marketing metrics across platforms, interpret results and present actionable insights to the team.
- Support paid advertising campaigns through project execution, optimization and creation of content and copy.
- Produce the monthly GPEC newsletter, ensuring content reflects timely business and economic developments in Greater Phoenix.
- Ensure all collateral and copy adhere to brand guidelines.
- Provide on-site support during GPEC events.
Desired Candidate Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in marketing, communications, digital media, journalism or a related field.
- Familiarity with digital marketing concepts, social media platforms and content distribution best practices.
- Experience producing professional-quality audio using Adobe Premiere Pro (or similar software), including editing, adding intros/outros and removing errors.
- Strong organization skills; ability to manage end-to-end podcast production, including scheduling, setup, guest communications, content capture, topic and guest brainstorming, outline creation and multi-channel distribution.
- Creative aptitude and proficiency in developing marketing collateral such as templated graphics and visual sound clips using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
- Experience managing and updating websites using content management systems such as WordPress, including SEO management.
- Strong understanding of web design practices, functionality and mobile UX.
- Knowledge of SEO strategies, keyword best practices and content optimization for search visibility.
- Proficient in monitoring and interpreting website, email and digital ad performance data, with an analytical mindset to suggest and implement improvements.
- Creative skills for developing compelling ad copy and visuals, with knowledge of AP Style, copywriting best practices and SEO keyword strategies.
- Experience creating and executing email marketing campaigns, including attention to brand standards in newsletters.
- Ability to maintain brand consistency and attention to design standards across all collateral.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with sharp attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
- Strong desire to grow professionally and contribute creatively.
- Highly motivated to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Open and receptive to both receiving and providing constructive feedback.
Internship Details
The hourly wage begins at $15.75 per hour, and the minimum commitment is 20 hours per week for at least six months. This role reports to the Senior Director of Digital Marketing.
