Site Selection Magazine names GPEC a top EDO in 2024 Mac Conway Awards

PHOENIX (May 1, 2024) — For the eighth consecutive year, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) has been named by Site Selection magazine as one of the top economic development organizations (EDO) in the United States.

GPEC was one of 20 regional and local economic development groups recognized with the 2024 Mac Conway Award for Excellence in Economic Development. This annual award recognizes the efforts of EDOs around the country who contribute to the development of their respective communities, with criteria centered around new company investments and jobs created.

“Eight consecutive years of recognition represents more than an acknowledgment of GPEC and its work. It is testimony to the immense growth the region sees and strives for: never satisfied but always driven to build upon the successes that have guided it as a tech hub and innovation capital of the country,” said GPEC President & CEO Chris Camacho. “We are humbled to receive this award and share it with our 22 member communities, Maricopa and Pinal counties, and over 200 investors that help us bring community prosperity.”

Mac Conway Award recipients are selected based on six criteria: total projects, total investment, total jobs associated with said projects, and per-capita calculations of each metric.

In the 2023 calendar year, GPEC helped 38 companies expand or relocate to the region, creating more than 6,000 jobs. Companies supported include Amkor Technology, Google, NRS Logistics, LG Energy Solutions, Mediterranean Shipping Company and Sysco.

GPEC has been named a top EDO by Site Selection each year since 2016, when the award was renamed from “Top Economic Development Groups in America” to “Mac Conway Award for Excellence in Economic Development.” In May 2007, GPEC was named an “Honorable Mention North American Groups of 2006” in the “Top Economic Development Groups in America” by Site Selection.
