Site Selection magazine announces 2022 Mac Conway Awards

For the sixth straight year, Greater Phoenix Economic Council has been recognized as a top economic development organization by Site Selection magazine, awarding GPEC the 2022 Mac Conway Award for Excellence in Economic Development. The Mac Conway Award, named in honor of Site Selection founding publisher H. McKinley “Mac” Conway, is awarded to the top 20 local and regional U.S. economic development groups of 2021.

“Being recognized as a top economic organization for the sixth straight year is an immense achievement. Collaboration is at the center of what we do at the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and embodies the spirit of Greater Phoenix as our businesses and communities work together to drive investment, create jobs, spur innovation and advance our community,” said Chris Camacho, GPEC President and CEO. “We share this distinction with and are grateful for the partnership of our 22 member communities, Maricopa County and 190 private investors that we work alongside to advance the regional economy and its competitiveness.”

2022 Mac Conway Award winners are determined by an index of corporate facility investment as tracked by Site Selection’s proprietary Conway Projects database. Scores are awarded based on six criteria: total projects, total investment and total jobs associated with those projects. Three more criteria are per capita versions of those same metrics.

In Site Selection’s May 2007 issue, they named GPEC as an “Honorable Mention North American Groups of 2006” in the “Top Economic Development Groups in America.” GPEC was named a Top EDO by Site Selection for the first time in 2016, when the award was renamed from “Top Economic Development Groups in America” to “Mac Conway Award for Excellence in Economic Development.”

“The Mac Conway Awards honor those local and regional agencies that excelled in attracting capital investment to their areas in 2021,” says Mark Arend, Editor in Chief of Site Selection. “While that investment is significant, the awards more specifically recognize the jobs created by new and expanding projects and the local economic benefit that follows.”
