IRIS USA selects Surprise for western US regional headquarters

February 18, 2015

IRIS USA, Inc., a consumer products company that sells to retailers across America and a subsidiary of IRIS Ohyama, Inc., announced it will build its Western United States Regional Headquarters in Surprise, Ariz.In making the announcement during her State of the City address, Surprise Mayor Sharon Wolcott said, “This project is aligned with the city’s goal of attracting foreign direct investment from quality companies that want to be a part of the vision and vitality of Surprise. We could not ask for a better new neighbor. Welcome IRIS USA.”IRIS USA’s new 280,000-square-foot building will include office, manufacturing and distribution space.Read the full press release here.

GPEC, Maricopa County debut new website

A new partnership between Maricopa County and GPEC launched via a new website, Maricopa County Competes.  This site provides an opportunity for businesses looking to grow their operations in Maricopa County to locate services available to make doing business in Maricopa County – the nation’s fourth largest county - seamless.“The county plays an important role in driving economic development and this new portal reinforces the County’s commitment to being open for business,” said President and CEO Chris Camacho. “Our mission focuses on expanding high wage jobs in the region, and any opportunity to promote the ease of doing business within Maricopa County is a great one.”Read the full press release here.

GPEC senior staff members receive national award

Chris Petroff and Angela Talbot, Vice Presidents of Business Development at GPEC, were recognized by Development Counsellors International as 40 Under 40 Rising Stars in economic development. The awards were presented at the International Economic Development Council conference January 26. Read the release here.

GPEC selects new President & CEO

January 22, 2015

During this morning’s Board of Directors meeting, the board unanimously selected Chris Camacho as the organization’s fourth President and CEO."Chris is one of the leading economic development professionals in the country and unquestionably the best candidate for the position,"" said Don Smith, GPEC board chairman and CopperPoint Mutual president.Over the course of his career, Camacho has earned regional and national recognition. This month, he was recognized by Consultant Connect as a Top 50 Economic Developer in North America. He has served as president of the Arizona Association for Economic Development, and was named Economic Developer of the Year by the organization in 2011. Both the Phoenix Business Journal in 2012 and Development Counsellors International in 2013 recognized him as one of the 40 under 40.Read more here.
